Impala - I think you probably get it now if you have read and thought about everything that you ahve been told on this thread. The key thing is they deceived you - not in a small way but in relation to key core JW beliefs because that is what they call 'the meat' - the hard to chew on stuff which is reserved until you are totally hooked. They have love-bombed you to make you feel wanted and special but that will not last once you are baptized. Tehn it will be complaince and obedience and don'[t question or think for yourself. You have been given the M&M (mislead and manipulated) treatment and that is what you cna expect in the future if you keep studyiung and god-forbid get baptized. It is a good thing you have opened your eyes now but don't slip back into wilful blindness - escape while you have the chance.

scotoma and metatron - while what you propose is not impossible because the limit of our knowledge means that virtually nothing is impossible but its possibility is so remote given the complete absence of evidence to support it, as to not warrant the energy and zealotry you have invested in it, which makes me believe you are the victims of a cult, so good luck with that - I could recommend living in the here and now and not chasing rainbows but I am sure my words will have no impact on you whatsoever Fraz

This WT study really is cult- mind control 101:
- don't use critical thinking otherwise you will lose your hope of everlasting life (fear)
- the enemy (Satan) is trying to deceive us so be on your guard against people who use critical thinking (fear again)
- don't drift away - i.e. keep going to the KH to be indoctrinated (guilt)
- spend as much time as possible in servide (guilt)
- only associate with those who accept WBTS indoctrination (guilt)
In summary avoid doing anything that might cause you even remotely to start thinking for yourself rather than accept WBTS indoctrination uncritically

scotoma - I don't agree that all humans are equally vulnerable to cults. Well-educated well-adjusted indivduals with critical thinking skills are less vulnerable. Humans have been successful as a species because of our ability to identify patterns - unfortunatley that means we find them where they don't in fact exist. I think this may be what is happening with your so-called working hypothesis. Looking through the Bible to identify communications from aliens strikes me as falling squarely within this characterisation? And what will happen when the Isreal/Palestine peace treaty you anticipate does not occur this year? Will you do a Watchtower and simply adjust your timing?

That is fantastic and obviously could apply equally to the Watchtower. I will be very interested to see how this develops. This could be the end of cults like the Mormons and the Watchtower if the Magistrate can get a conviction. I have been banging on about how if the Watchtower were selling a product that they would get done for misleading and deceptive conduct. But providing misleading information to collect donations as a form of fraud - what a great angle! Indeed it would be a worldwide conspiracy to commit fraud! It might be time to report the Watchtower to the Department of Justice in the US and the Serious Fraud Office in the UK for conspiracy to commit fraud. Good on the Magistrate to ahve the cojones to challenge the Mormons. Hopefully the Watchtower is next! Though I recognise that this is wishful thinking. But maybe all the members of JWN whoudl band toegther and calcualte all the money they contributed to the WAtchtower while Witnesses and bring a multi-jurisdictional class action to recover those funds on the grounds of fraud! Any takers?

As I suggested, I suspect that most people on JWN would not fit into the category of those to be visited on the grounds it would be a waste of time for those who have learnt TTATT. But sewing the seeds of reinstatement for those who are susceptible is straight out fo the Watchtower BITE playbook because getting them back in after having been df'd makes them easier to hang on to because having gone through the hell of being df'd they are terrified of facing that again. That was certainly the case for my wife. She became much more of a zealot after she was reinstated compared to before she was df'd.

Data-dog's thread 'What would you do?' got me thinking about the whole freedom of religion and people's right to choose argument adn I made the analogy of consumer preotection, which got me to thinking that Watchtower publications should come with a health warning similar to that for cigarettes. So I though of a few:
'Be warned about the veracity of the claims of this organisation: It has been predicting that Armageddon is imminent for more than 100 years!'
'Beware: This Organisation uses BITE' Alternatively 'Its BITE is worse than its bark'
'Believing this organisation may be damaging to your mental health, isolate you from humanity, break up your family, increase your chance of committing suicide and increase the risk your children will be exposed to paedophiles.'
'If you enjoy constantly being told you are not good enough: This organisation is for you!'
I welcome further suggestions and votes on which you think is the best.
